Fly Fishing in Tasmania's Central Highlands

Rates starting at $600 Per person, per day

See more about pricing here

The Central Highlands of Tasmania offers a range of fantastic lake fishing options for the visiting fly fisher. The brown trout that reside in these lakes can all be traced back to the original 1864 arrivals and every year provide great challenges to the visiting anglers.

Generally fishing from our 4.5m Quintrex Hornet, we can explore lakes like Little Pine, Penstock Lagoon, Arthurs Lake and Woods Lake chasing the notorious wild brown trout or, on some of these lakes, the crazy rainbows. With all gear provided (unless you want to bring your own) we have everything covered. And we’ll make sure there we have plenty of Tasmanian trout flies. As fly selection is a critical part of your success, the trout flies we fish with are tried and tested in Tasmania. You just need to bring your enthusiasm and patience and we can see what we can find.

In fact you also need to bring things like the right clothing, a good hat, sunglasses and a fishing licence, but we can work through that once you’ve booked.

So if you are keen, then why not get in touch for your next Tasmanian fly fishing experience.

"
Our recent fly fishing trip to Tasmania from Florida, US included a stellar day on the water with Tasmanian Guide, Nick May of The Highland Fly. We were fascinated by the Tassie style of sight fishing (polaroiding) on a lake as our experience with sight fishing was limited to bonefish. Nick was a pleasure to spend a full day with and his boat is a fly fisherman’s dream. Safety was a priority. Nick was particularly sensitive to monitoring our needs and seemed to know exactly how much input to offer. Two of us casted simultaneously with no problem at all and caught lovely, wild Brown Trout in the most exquisite setting. Lunch was catered by a local cafe and was certainly more than any fishermen could ever hope for. Our only regret was not being able to spend more time with this skilled Tassie guide.”
